I was recently contacted by Olea at Rising Moon Adventures and asked if my family would review one of her flannel board stories. Now when my oldest daughter was born I spent countless hours doing flashcards, workbooks, and anything educational with her. She was reading at the age of 3 and has skipped a grade and maintains an A average in the Gifted and Talented Program. I have to admit though when Rylee my youngest came along I have had a hard time finding enough hours in the day to squeeze in educational lessons. So I was very excited when we had the chance to review something that is not only fun but a teaching tool. Immediately my mind started spinning with ideas of all the lessons I could do with these flannel board stories!

Flannel board stories are a great tool in teaching young children several skills such as colors, reading skills, counting, shapes, and more. Each story sold at Rising Moon Adventures is hand drawn, colored, printed onto transfer paper and ironed onto felt. The pictures are very colorful and captivating. They are extremely durable and can even be hand washed. Included with each set is a laminated story card. If you do not have a flannel board not to worry because you can get the magnetic version of each of the sets. What the Kiddo’s Thought:

I let Rylee look around the Rising Moon Adventures website to pick out the perfect story for her. She saw the “Monkeys on the Bed Flannel Board Story“ and squealed with delight. This is her favorite story which we have read every night before bed for as long as I can remember. We even have 2 sets of  Monkeys Jumping on the Bed pajamas. So it was decided this was the story we were going to review. When we received our package in the mail I was pleasantly surprised. The set was even better than I imagined from the pictures on the website. The felt and artwork were both very high quality. The set also included a laminated card that had the “Monkeys on the Bed” song. I can say this was a huge hit with Rylee. We have played it every day since we received it. We have read the story while putting the pieces on the felt board which is fantastic for improving their reading and story telling skills. We also have used the 5 monkeys and 5 band-aids to work on our counting, adding, and subtracting skills. Another fun game we came up with was I  would put all the pieces on the board and then Rylee would cover her eyes and I would remove one of the pieces and she would try to figure out which one was gone. Great for improving their memories! Without a doubt I will be ordering more stories from Rising Moon Adventures. I think our next set will be the Three Little Pigs Flannel Board Story or the Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly Flannel Board Story.
