I don’t have many tips because im in the process of introducing potty for the first time, but I always let my son in the bathroom with me and let him flush, i try to make it a fun and happy place to be, not scary so he is used to it when it’s his time!
I think it is good to get the hole family on bored to support and encourage.

Do NOT get frustrated!
Potty training is challenging for the parent but even more challenging for the child.
If he/she is not catching on and you feel yourself getting frustrated put it off for a little while otherwise you may have a bad experience making it harder for the both of you!
Don’t pay attention to the talk of your child having to be potty trained by a certain age-each child is unique.
Lots of praise for a job well done works a lot better
Actually, I came here seeking answers, so I’m not sure how much my advice will help experienced (pro) parents! : )
But seriously, we have just started PT. But the one really biggie I’ve learned so far is to not rush our daughter. We used mainly cloth diapers with her, with doublers, and I’m not sure if that has helped or hindered her in potty training. Of course, now we are transitioning to pull-up type training pants, cute panties (as a sort of reward), etc.
Her main hangup still is that she doesn’t mind feeling wet. So she won’t always tell us after she’s gone in her diaper.
Wish us luck!
Leigh

Thanks much, and GLTA (with PT and the contest!),

Also, I’ve got the In a Kid’s World button on my blog sidebar at leighasmith.blogspot.com.
Thanks much!

Remember that just because he went accident free for a couple of days doesn’t mean that he’ll be accident free from there forward. My baby was going in the toilet at 3 months… now at 26 months he doesn’t want to use it anymore…
My best tip is don’t push them too early. Both of my children showed an interest in using the “big” potty, not diapers….my daughter around age 2 and my son around age 3. I just followed their lead and helped them learn by being attuned to their needs.
Hope that helps someone.
Thank you.
Put everything into it. Dont just do it halfway.
I best tip is keep plenty of cleaning supplies on hand for the accidents.
Our daughter is just starting to potty train. The main thing we have
done is to not rush her into PT on our schedule.
Thanks!

Put them on the potty about 20 to 30 minutes after they drink something to catch it at the right time.
I put my little one on the potty first thing in the morning. Rewards are great too, I gave out stickers.
If you have older children encourage the younger ones to go to the bathroom with them to see how it’s done. My younger son decided he wanted to be just like his brother who was 2 years older and use the big boys potty that way.
I follow on Twitter @eswright18 and tweeted.

Don’t trade back and forth between underpants and pull ups when you are at home, just use the under pants.
Develop a star based rewards program. Thanks for the chance.

Don’t start until your child is ready.
if you are getting frustrated don’t let it show!

make a big deal out of even little successes. Even sitting on the potty is a huge deal in our house!
Potty training is like Halloween. No tricks if you have TREATS! lol
my only tip would be not to push your child.
My potty training tip is to wait until they are ready to start. Try to push too early and you will really traumatise a child
I used Cheerios for my son. He would try and aim at the Cheerios in the potty, and that made it more fun for him.
Put them in underwear and put them on the potty 15-20 minutes after eating or drinking. Be consistent in asking if they need to go and putting them on. They will eventually get the hang of it!
Have a potty prize box for rewards!

my son has responded well to a chart on the bathroom wall. i give him a star every time he goes…he’ll even ask for it!

I am currently potty training my lil man. I don’t have many tips so far, but what I can tell you that is working is that we offer him a “treat” when he tells us he has to go and goes. So my tip is find something you’re kid really loves to eat and offer that as a special treat only for potty time.

Potty training tip: reward even the smallest of successes!!
I am about to potty train my 4th child and still feel like I am a novice at potty training. I guess my best advice is that each kid is different and it doesn’t do any good to try to force a kid when you are ready. Wait for the kid to be ready (within reason-don’t wait until they are 10 or anything crazy…)
i havent gone through this yet but i imagine staying calm helps!

We use pictures showing the steps to using the potty(pull down pants, underwear/pull-up, sit on potty, pee in potty, flush, wash hands, dry hands)

I use a sticker chart and a toy when they were fully potty trained
Im a fan on facebook
Lots of encouragement and letting them know how happy they make you!
Buy a toy and place it in the bathroom, when they go potty they get to play with the toy, when they go in their pants the toy goes back in the bathroom to wait for them to go in the potty again, so far this is working…
Using a Potty that sings has been a hit at our house. We are getting ready to potty train child #3.
rewards have been working really well!
Let your child pick our their own underwear and then just put them on. For my daughter she peed a couple of times in her beloved Dora panties and we “threw them away” (not really) and she stopped!

We are just starting training but I am a big fan of taking your time and following your child’s signals on when they are ready or not. I’ve known a few parents that started too soon and had months of frustration because the child was scared or refused to do it. While I have known many who do the take it slow method and have trained in less than a month.
My best advice is to Pray!!!!!
My best tip is to not do whatever we’ve been doing. We’ve been trying to train since August and just won’t do it!

every time you go to the bathroom, take you child with you – have a basket/area set up with toys, books, crayons so that it keeps them entertained while you’re going, which will help them go.
We used reward beans (just regular dried beans). He got a 1 bean for a #1 and two beans for a #2 once he got 10 beans he could pick a treat. I made a cute little jar to keep them in.
If I’m at home I prefer to use cloth training pants. I’ve trained many children in childcare and it goes sooooo much faster in cloth. That said these pull ups are very convenient for long car trips and vacations. Summer is coming!
Sing and dance when they potty. Let them know how very proud you are. Try not to get upset if they do not get it right away.
A great tip is dont rush them.. My son just one day wanted to go to the bathroom and hasnt had an accident in 2 years!

If you are potty training a boy, make it fun by throwing some cheerios or fun colored cereal in the bowl. Your boy will enjoy the sinking cereal while practicing his aiming in the process.
I follow In A Kid’s World on Twitter and have tweeted about this Giveaway.
I have 6 kids, one still in diapers. The one thing that has always worked for me is PRAISING. We praise everytime the child would go potty. There is alot of high fives and thumbs up and “You are such a big boy/girl!” and “We are so proud of you.” We would even do this if our child said they needed to go potty, sat there for awhile, but didn’t actually do anything. We still made a big deal of the fact that they wanted to sit on the potty. This could get exhausting but the kids loved the attention and would potty train happily.
**Accidents do happen. Don’t make them feel like a failure for having an accident. Just remind them to let you know when they have to go because you are so proud when they go in the big potty**
Plan for trips. Remember when you leave the house that potty training does not stop. Be prepared to rush to the potty while at restraunts, grocery shopping, driving, ect.
I know this is alot but hope it helps!
Cloth diapers with plastic pants are great for potty training because diapers are comfortable if your child is uncomfortable when they are wet, they will potty train faster.
First you have to have patience and be persistent. The second thing that seemed to really work with all 3 of my girls and will hopefully work with the next one is we hung up a sticker chart so every time they went potty they got to put a sticker on the bored and when they got to the end they got a small prize and then we started the line over again.

It’s next to impossible to potty train a kid who doesn’t understand their body enough to anticipate “going”. It’s best to wait until they understand to make it easier for all parties involved.
This is something your child MUST decide when he/she is ready. Don’t rush it and don’t worry. Most kids potty train by 4.5 years. Hang in there – it;ll be OK.
i found with my son it was easiest for the first couple of weeks to let him go naked during the day. He realized then when he had to go.
elmo underwear is a great way to potty train
My best advice is be consistent!!! Once you have decided to begin potty training, you have to stick with it. If you go back and forth between diapers and big kid pant than your child will think, I can just go back to diapers whenever I want! Once you know that are ready, commit to it!

Always make sure the lid is up before they sit on the potty!
best tip i have, and i’m a nanny so i’ve potty trained lots of kids! do not make it an option, if kids think they have a choice, they wont use the potty because it takes them away from having fun with their toys, say you have to go potty in potty no exceptions.
Stay relaxed and follow your own instincts

We had a potty weekend to kick off potty training where we stayed in all weekend and our daughter went pants-less/underpants-less all weekend long. She really loved it and was going in the potty that day. We’re not fully potty trained yet, but it was a fun way to start it. Keep it fun!!
My potty training tip is bribery! Potty prizes are working for us! One m&m goes a long way.
Relax! Don’t force your little one to potty train. If you wait until they are ready it will be a calmer experience for you and your toddler.
Well, I need some potty training tips for my daughter! She is almost three and not yet real interested in potty training yet. However, what worked for my son was putting stickers on a little potty chart. After 5 stickers, he could get a little prize (just little trinkets from the dollar store, etc.). He was so motivated to get the stickers and toys, that he just started using the potty!
I’m a fan on Facebook!!
Set the kiddie potty in the bathroom near the big potty, but don’t mention it. They get used to it being there, comfortable with toying around with it, and soon want to use it of their own initiative.
Use a sticker chart!!
Make it fun, get really excited when they go to the potty
My tip is to be very patient and praise your child when they do go to the potty
If you have a boy, put a few cheerios in the potty and tell him to aim for them.
Tip- sing a song every time your child goes successfully and give them stickers too for the wonderful completed task

Have specific times to try to use the potty everyday and don’t miss them.
i use to put cheerios in the potty for my son and tell him to aim for the circle.it worked.thanks
We haven’t started potty training yet but everyone always says that you can’t rush it and to follow your childs lead.
Rewards work the best I think!
Let them run around naked. There will be accidents, but My daughter was FULL day time potty trained using this method in 3 days. Now I still use pull ups for nap and going out and I use diapers at night. But I still save about 5 diapers a day having her be day potty trained!
We got the Princess wipes and was only allowed to used them when she went on the potty. If she went in her pill ups then she had to use her brother’s “baby” wipes. This really motivated her.
Just subscribed via email.
Using the training underwear works best for us! She tells me she has to go because she doesn’t want to feel wet!
They will (sometimes) let you know when they are ready or not ready.
My son absolutely refused to go potty in the potty until he was 4 years old!! Then one day he decided he was ready and went straight to underwear with no problems.
My daughter was going #2’s and #1’s before she hit 18 months.
We are reading LOTS and LOTS of potty books and talking about the potty a lot. We are also using m&m’s as a treat…1 for trying 2 for peeing and 3 for poop! Fingers crossed, this method is working for us:)
In the nude worked great for my other two. We had few accidents and within two weeks, we were ready for big boy/girl underwear.
My tip is to hide all of the diapers once you start training. Try not to revert back to them. Sometimes, consistency is the key!
Find what works for your child… even if you have to keep trying! We’ve tried sticker charts, M&Ms, quarters, and even cheap toys (bracelets, etc). The rewards that work for one child don’t always work for all!
Our tip is lots and lots of patience
I use stickers and mini m and m’s! tracietrump@yahoo.com
My best advice is to let them guide the potty training. I tried to force it with my first and it was me being trained. By my third, I realized that they’ll go when they are ready. She did it amazingly fast.
I’m a fb fan.
I try to make it fun for my son. We have a “treasure chest” (hot wheel cars, stickers, sugar free snacks)after he goes to the potty he gets to choose a treasure and he is doing great so far.

i think the main thing is you have to be consistent with the trips to the bathroom potty and eventually they get it on their own

We used bribery–an M&M for a successful potty trip. It took a week!
Keep a fun bin of goodies next to the potty…books, toys, etc.
Since I am training my daughter right now, I need tips too
But I have realized that it can’t be forced, even with a yummy reward she goes when she wants to.
